Meet the impactiive® Team: Shane Ellevsen

Senior Banker,

Mr. Ellevsen has worked in the financial and professional services industry for over 40 years, having started his career with one of Australia’s largest banks (NAB). Following NAB he joined Metway Bank just as it was to commence its transition from a Building Society to a conventional Bank.

After 14 years with Metway and at the Bank’s request he joined a technology start-up, Sirrus Advanced Banking Systems, as its Senior Banking Consultant. Sirrus, in partnership with a Swiss based banking consortium technology company, was developing a core banking system for the global banking market.

In 1997 Mr. Ellevsen joined Financial Network Services (FNS), a system technology developer, as a Senior Banking Consultant / Program Director working on core system implementations programs, predominantly in South East Asia.

In 2000 he joined Ernst & Young Management Consultancy - Middle East. During his time with Ernst & Young, Mr. Ellevsen directed system selection / implementations programs as well as strategy initiatives. A key highlight was his leadership role in a start-up Islamic mortgage finance company program that literally took the initiative from ‘thought to finish.’

In 2005, with both technology and management consulting skills now included in his repertoire, he returned to mainstream banking, joining one of Lebanon’s largest banks, Byblos Bank as an AGM - Organizational Design, directing the restructuring of the Bank and acting as Advisor to both the Chairman and its Vice Chairman - GM.

From 2008 to 2017 Mr. Ellevsen held roles as C.O.O. - Islamic Investment Bank (TFI); Integration Director - commercial and retail bank; DGM - Corporate Strategy & Planning - Islamic Bank; and SVP - Distribution and Digitization Optimization transformation - commercial retail bank. Over this time, he specialized in restructuring and modernizing distressed banks, e.g., for TFI, a Qatar based investment bank; where he was responsible for the Bank’s re-launching program, including recruitment of its leadership team, new data center build, implementation of an asset management system, and development of HR strategy, policies & procedures.

For QNB, a Qatar based and the Middle East’s largest bank, he worked for their International Banking Division on large-scale transformation programs of acquired banks. The most major assignment was based in Indonesia where he established a PMO for the destressed acquired Bank, and then directed the restructuring and transformation program. The program involved 27 separate work streams including restructuring; rebranding; IT infrastructure upgrades; replacement of core banking, teller, and auxiliary systems; new head office design and fit-out; and branch expansion.

For Boubyan Bank, a Kuwait based distressed Islamic bank, Mr. Ellevsen oversaw the implementation of a restructuring and transformation. For Riyad Bank, he directed the implementation of a Retail Banking digital and distribution transformation program including new digital channels and process automation tools. Later he was appointed as Senior Advisor to the newly appointed Head of Retail Banking to develop and oversee implementation of a 3-year growth strategy.

Since 2018 he has been working as an independent consultant working on engagements related to growth identification and cost optimizations opportunities in G.C.C. markets. Assignments include being contracted by Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH) as a Senior Banking Advisor on a Performance and Cost Optimization identification program for a midsized G.C.C. bank.

Mr Ellevsen holds a BS in Business and Finance from the American University of London UK, and is highly regarded for his ability to build cross divisional collaborations, and to lead large multidisciplinary, multinational transformation teams.
