Meet the impactiive® Team: Frank J. Gamble

Senior Banker,

Mr. Gamble has been a banker for over 45 years. Graduating in Economics from the University of Dundee, he started his career as a graduate trainee with the Bank of Scotland, learning his trade in a branch at St. Andrews. After 2 years he moved to an International Bank in the City of London as an Account Relationship Officer, rising to a unit head within 2 years. An overseas expatriate career beckoned, and he spent the next 20 years in a variety of positions, in Kenya, Sharjah, Zurich, and became the Country Head of ANZ Grindlays Bank in Qatar. This was followed by a succession of CEO/GM roles as country head in Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, the UAE, Sri Lanka and after an interlude back in London, as Chief Administrative Officer for the UK/Europe Region, he ended his career with ANZ as CEO South Korea.

In his first retirement he moved into Microfinance as Deputy Regional Director for Opportunity International, based in Uganda, but after a year was promoted to Global Chief Operating Officer of the Network.

He returned to ANZ for a short contract in 2010 as Chief Risk Officer North West Pacific and then moved to a local bank, Bank of South Pacific, based in Papua New Guinea as Chief Credit Officer.

Another return to Africa in 2013, as Deputy Regional Director Africa for FINCA, a Microfinance network (again based in Kampala, Uganda) before moving back to the UK in late 2014. Since 2016 he has been consulting for FINCA and sits on two boards for them (DRC as Chairman and Zambia).

During his career he has been a member of numerous boards for different organisations (PNG Credit Bureau, Opportunity International subsidiaries in Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, FINCA subsidiaries in DRC and Zambia, and the Chairman of a microfinance operation in Afghanistan).

Having grown up around the world (India, Pakistan, and Thailand) he was educated at Fettes College Edinburgh, Scotland, where he was an Open Scholar. He was also awarded the Sir John Ross Prize from the Institute of Bankers in Scotland, The Begg Memorial Scholarship to study Medicine at University and the Bowie Memorial Prize for First Place in class on graduation from Dundee University in Economics.

He holds an MA in Economics, the Diploma of the Institute of Bankers in Scotland and is an Honorary Fellow of the PNG Institute of Banking and Business Management (Papua New Guinea).
